Pheasant numbers done by SD GF&P shows numbers in the roy lake area to be the strongest in the state. We have had a lot of water in the state, but because our elevation is so high, 1900 ft., our water drains off and doesn't disturb hatching. I also noticed that farmers this year are planting corn with shorter maturity growth times, which means the end of October/November will be great times to hunt. Pheasant licenses are over the counter and with 55,000 acres of public hunting land you shouldn't have trouble finding them.
Waterfowl should be excellent, lots of ducks and geese with an early canada goose hunt this Fall. If you didn't get a state license and are a non-resident, give us a call and we will give you the information to see about getting a tribal license. We are right by the tribal land and I have a lot of customers that hunt tribal and they are very happy doing that.
If you want a guide service we also can put that together for you.
